The Culpeper is the immortal banner of the Culpeper Minutemen of Virginia who fought against the British in the American Revolution.  The rattlesnake and words "Don't Tread On Me" was a powerful expression of resistance to the British.  "Liberty or Death" were the words of Patrick Henry, who inspired many to fight for their freedom.
