The original flag of the Confederacy, used from March 1861 until May 1863. The "stripes" are called "bars", but otherwise is similar to the Union flag. Each star represents one of the seven states to have seceded before the attack on Fort Sumter and Lincoln's response. The Stars and Bars was eventually replaced by the Confederate Battle Flag, first in the Confederate army then throughout the Confederacy.
