Florida State Flag
Florida's red diagonal cross is inspired by the Battle Flag of the Confederate States of America. Florida was a member of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Within the seal are Indian women scattering flowers representing the states first inhabitants, the Seminoles. The seal also shows the states other attributes - sunshine, palm trees, rivers and lakes. The state motto "In God We Trust" is also prominent.
